An influencer launch event is not simply an opening party with a long guest list of people who have Instagram accounts. It is a campaign designed around creators who can introduce a venue, menu or experience to relevant audiences.

Start with the objective

A creator event can support a new venue, menu launch, hotel opening, event series or distinctive collaboration. Decide whether the job is local awareness, content creation, coverage within a particular community or relationship building.

Select for fit

Consider location, audience relevance, content quality, niche and professionalism. A smaller room of creators whose followers make local dining decisions can be more useful than a huge guest list with little geographic relevance.

Design an experience worth covering

Plan arrival, food pacing, key moments, staff communication and filming considerations. Creators need enough time and access to understand the venue, but the event should still represent the customer experience.

Be clear about obligations

Some guests may attend with no posting obligation. Others may have paid or hosted deliverables. Those arrangements should be clear before the event.

Disclosure still matters

Australian Consumer Law applies to paid and incentivised influencer promotions, including free products and services. Businesses should not ask creators to hide a commercial relationship.

Give creators accurate information

Provide venue name, location, opening information, menu facts, key people and booking details. Factual checking is different from scripting praise.

Capture owned content too

Plan venue photography and video separately so the business is not entirely dependent on what guests publish.

Measure the event realistically

Look at relevant creator content, audience quality, profile visits, website activity, bookings, reusable assets and new relationships.

An influencer event is valuable when it creates relevant attention and useful relationships, not simply when the guest list looks impressive.
